United States defeated 3-2 Finland in the Bronze Medal Game, earning the lower step of the podium in the 2013 IIHF World Championship. The Americans started very well the game scoring early in the first period with Craig Smith (Nashville Predators). Late in the first USA scored again with Paul Stastny (Colorado Avalanche), thanks to a good assist by Smith. In the second period Finland tried to come back with a couple of good scoring chances, not being able to score any goal despite the good offensive effort. In the third the Scandinavians stepped up, reaching the tie with two goals of Lauri Korpikoski (Phoenix Coyotes), the second with a great assist from Mikael Granlund (Minnesota Wild), forcing the game to overtime. Any team was able to score in the overtime, and in the shootout United States won the bronze medal with a crucial goal of Alex Galchenyuk (Montreal Canadiens).
