The Patriots quarterback orchestrated another fourth quarter comeback to give the Patriots the last-second 30-27 win. The Patriots improve to 5-1 and the Saints fall to 5-1.
Down 27-23, the defense gave Brady one last chance. The quarterback got the ball back, at the 30, with 1:13 left. Brady instantly hit Edelman (23 yards), Austin Collie (15 yards) and Aaron Dobson (6 yards) to get to the 26. Faced with a third-and-4, Brady nearly got it to Edelman at the goal line, but the receiver couldn't haul in the pass. On fourth down, Brady got it to Collie, which brought the Pats to the 16. Brady then added one more fourth quarter comeback to his resume hitting Kenbrell Thompkins for a 17-yard touchdown pass with 5 seconds left.
The Pats looked bound for the loss after Drew Brees gave the Saints the lead late in the fourth quarter.
The Patriots, who lost Danny Amendola, Aqib Talib and Jerod Mayo to injuries, clung on to a 23-17 lead late in the fourth quarter. And faced with a third-and-20, a depleted Patriots defense had a chance to secure the win.
